Colts News
October 18 2003
The Colts have had a reasonable start to this years campaign, and further improvement is evident.
Following the opening game of the season against last year's Cumbrian County Champions, Egremont, who beat us.convincingly, 10 - 42, at home, the side have picked themselves up to play three much improved games. The following week saw us travel to Harrogate, who narrowly beat us 5-15, although the side proved they could compete with one of the strongest sides in the area.
New signings Ross Bolton, Chris Gladwyn and Dan Boatman have undoubtedly made a big impact on the side, and with Lee Nassau returning from Darlington and moving to fly half, the back-line looks far more organised.
Dan Peart was undoubtedly man of the match at Harrogate with one of his most industrious performances since moving into the forwards, playing the game with grit and determination from start to finish.
The following fixture, we entertained Billingham at home, and here the forwards and backs combined, to show they can play an expansive game. The result here was 41 - 7 in our favour and the only down side was that we allowed Billingham to cross our line.
Last week we travelled to Ryton for the first game in the Northern Championship U18 league, and recorded a 35-0 win. The team spirit was excellent and the players' confidence is mounting game after game.
Michael Wade, Ian Pinchen and Jonathon Cherrington each scored a try with Ross Bolton crossing the line twice. Lee Nassau kicked all of the conversions.
This Saturday (18 Oct. 2003) will be a different experience, as we travel to Huddersfield. Past encounters against this club have taught us we will without a doubt be up against a strong side, and it will be a solid test of how far this side has come and what level of rugby we are capable of playing.
With a bit of luck and a lot of hard work, it will be another W on the scoreboard.
