DMPRFC Under 17 s won there North Divisional Shield Semi Final against Pontefract, playing superbly well against a side that had not been beaten all season.
In a very closely fought game Mowden took the lead after 5 mins with a try from fullback Ian Wilson, converted by fly half Micky Harris. Pontefract then came back and scored in the corner through their right winger and the conversion was missed.
In the second half Mowden's forwards drove down field to score their 2nd try, touched down by 2nd row Liam Clarke and converted by Mickey Harris. Again Pontefract came back and powerful running from their outside centre resulted in their second try, but once again the conversion was missed.
Mowden regrouped and again drove up field through the forwards and after a lot of good defence by Pontefract, Mowden finally got over the line with No 8 Carl Trotter touching down our third try out wide and with Micky Harris adding an excellent conversion from out wide against the wind. This gave Mowden a two score cushion. In the final few minutes Pontefract outside centre ran from his own 22 to weave past four defenders to score a great individual try under the posts. The conversion was taken quickly to make the score 21 – 17. From the kick-off the ball went loose and was kicked into touch for the referee to blow the final whistle.
This was Mowden Under 17's best performance of the season and now puts them into the Final against Keswick who beat Burnley in the other Semi-Final.
Although a tremendous all round performance from all 19 of the team especially the forwards, a special mention to No 8 Carl Trotter who had a excellent game once again and he seems to keep getting better each week.
