EVERY Sunday morning thousands of young boys and girls at clubs all over the country enjoy the thrill of learning and displaying their skills on the Mini Rugby field. Nowhere is that enthusiasm more in evidence than at Mowden Park, where in a few short years the dedication of club members, parents and the youngsters themselves have helped build one of the North-East's top Mini Rugby groups, with children aged from six to 12 learning the basic skills of the game under Rugby Football Union-qualified coaches.
Fun is the name of the game, with boys and girls of all abilities welcome to join in, learning the basics of rugby in a safe environment with all equipment provided. Family and friends are always welcome to watch or join in the training sessions and support their youngsters at our regular fixtures with other clubs, followed by the chance to make new friends and chat with coaches in the comfort of the clubhouse, where all players are given free refreshments and the chance to mix socially with children from all over Darlington and the surrounding area.
Everyone at Mowden Park is eagerly awaiting the start of the new season. The cost per session/match is just £1.50 per player. Come along and join our winning team - I guarantee you will have a ball!

Registration
PARENTS are reminded that all players must register BEFORE changing and starting training.
Some players have been arriving late and offering registration fees to coaches on the training pitch, which is not acceptable as it means we have no record of that player having registered, should he or she need to be contacted urgently. It is also an unnecessary distraction for coaches and other players.
If necessary, player can register with kitchen staff if our registration ladies have finished at around 10.30am.
The best answer, of course, is to be on time.
Helping Hands
One of the main reasons we have been so successful as a Minis section is that we have always been lucky enough to know we can rely on a team of parents, grandparents and friends helping behind the scenes. We are always delighted to welcome parents who would be willing join a pool of helpers to assist with coaching as required under the direction of the main coach.
We do not envisage this to be a week-in, week-out commitment but to give assistance if required, though anyone gripped enough to go on to take an official coaching course will be encouraged to do so. It's great fun and does wonders in reducing your waistline and stress levels!
Please talk to your age-group coach as soon as possible so we can create a data base. It is also compulsory for all helpers to sign child protection forms. We are also looking for parents who would like to help behind the scenes. Any parent who would like to volunteer on a rota basis for taking registration, manning the lost property cupboard, boot-exchange, drinks and sweet shop duty, kitchen duty etc please hand your name and contact number to your main coach as soon as possible.
Equipment
All equipment (balls, cones etc) is provided for players but it is their responsibility to ensure they are appropriately clothed for the conditions. When it does get cold and wet, please make sure your child is suitably dressed, both for their comfort and to avoid interrupting training sessions, with coaches having to ferry frozen children to the warmth of the dressing room.
As a guideline, players should dress in layers - rugby/football boots and socks, shorts, T-shirt; tracksuit bottoms, rugby shirt; sweatshirt/tracksuit or waterproof top, woolly hat, goalkeepers' gloves to grip the wet ball.
Clothes can be removed to cool down but once players are cold their training or match is over as an enjoyable experience.
Also, a towel and soap for showering will be needed when the weather turns unpleasant as wet, muddy children are not so welcome in the clubhouse as clean, dry ones! At least ensure your child has a change of clothing and footwear.
SAFETY
Safety is the top priority at all times when your children are with us. For insurance purposes, all players must be registered with the Durham County RFU and/or with the club.
To circumvent any problems with organisation at county level, we have decided to register all players as members of Mowden Park, whether or not they are county registered.
Our registration system ensures our database of players is up to date with a list of contact numbers and identification of any medical conditions we need to know about while your child is in our care.
As a new recruit, you will be given a registration form when you register for the first time. If not, please ask one of our registration ladies to supply one. All those already registered need not do so again.
