V
BISHOP AUCKLAND U9'S (Minis)

Match 1

The damp, freezing, blizzard conditions didn’t help the day, which resulted in Mowden's under 9’s getting off to a bad start. This was compounded by the slope of the pitch, going against the visitors, not to mention the late change of wind direction.

Mowden U9’s were lacking self belief, which resulted with them conceding a number of tries. Captained by Toby, he made every effort to lead his troops into battle taking on the opposition almost single-handedly. Although clear to see that Mowden were technically the better team, they were struggling to pull together the style of rugby they usually sees them shine.

By half time and down, regardless of the rallying calls from the captain the teams heads dropped. The big hitters didn’t hit and the covering line was left to Thomas to cover, a job he performed well.
The game ended with Mowden U9’s being defeated for the first time this season.

Match 2.

An air of reluctance to start the second game, was soon quashed by the captain Toby who despite the grey clouds hanging over the team was keen to revive the teams fortunes.

The second game saw a change in the weather conditions, with Mowden U9’s now playing with the sun in their eyes.
A slow start was soon overcome with Mowden realising they were capable of not only taking on Bishop Auckland , but taking them to the wire and beating them.
If not for the 2 early conceded tries Mowden could have easily come away with the win.

The coaches are swollen with pride to be associated with mowden U9’s .
Although  not wanting to come out for the second game, the fact of the matter is that you did and once on the pitch you gave a good account of yourselves, if you had played the second game first then the first game, I’m sure, would have had a different result.
Well done.

By kind permission of Herr Birch.
